Doing some more "touching base" with alternative stop points enroute these "Nats"One took me breath away.........privately owned "resort" NT.........to use their airstrip one needs to have 10 mill $$public liability insurance cover.Without that..................go away.Your strip is just a piece of graded dirt mate, .5km from your complex, not intending to buzz around the complex at all. Drop in, fuel up, then off again, sorry says manager, thems the rules.A little more talking, and he softens a tad, send me an email explaining your situation, i will forward that to the owners to see if they will soften their ruling.Owner is Melbourne based Company....( Grollo constructions ).............phew. Hope this is not what the future demands of us.This was applied to ALL USERS / pilots.

Russ,I have been working on the proposition that as ASRA didn"t get insurance coverage again that I would need to extend my club one to cover the Nat"s at Wongan Hills. No I wasn"t planning on extending that to include operations away from Bindoon or Wongan Hills airstrip. If any ASRA board member can clarify the situation it would be appreciated. Thanks,Adrian

Russ & others,Unfortunately most Shire & private strips will already expect that you have public liability. This has been an ongoing problem that seemed to go away when we had the earlier ASRA Insurance because I and others had a compliance note to wave round. It is interesting that it is usually only the Sport aviation guys that get asked to show a compliance note. When I operate my RV or Helo the shire never asks the questions so I have asked a few of my own and their responce has been that they believed that it was unlawful to operate a "real" aircraft without insurance. You should see their faces when I tell them that they should know that most "real" aircraft have little or no Public liability and certainly not 10 million but they could count on the gyro (in the past) or ultralight guys to have at least 2million because it was part of the license!Adrian

Adrian........thanks pal....interesting infoMonth or 2 back i sought insurance cover ( public liability ) as a package deal for asra, was useing a contact i had, to use his contacts, for our benefit.Too cut a long story short here..............the answer was no............but they were prepared to offer cover on an individual basis only. Cost around $1200 per yr."Hull insurance" was also offered..............might interest some here.A large factor that played against us was.................history, or lack of. The data we could supply them was not good enough for their "risk"Member numbers.........gyro numbers......hrs accumulated flying times total......etc etc.Doing their number crunchings, we did not come up roses. The outcome of our "percieved risk" was they offered cover, at a totally unaffordable premium........absolutely over the top.If future approaches by us for cover occur.................WE
