Flew up to Brett Kingstons place at griffith the other month for his Birthday, spoke to Brett and said this would make a great place for the Nationals for 2015. He said no problems as long as ASRA caters it, plenty of space for camping, Griffith not that far for fuel or accommodation. The powers to be need to give him a call.

Just a quick rundown on how the ASRA Nationals works. The ASRA calls for nominations from interested clubs or groups of members that would like to run the nationals competitions. These people need to show that they have the facilities, man power and abilities to organised and conduct this event. There is a lot of work in preparation and lots more at the event. There needs to be people on the ground for some time beforehand just getting things ready, it doesn"t just happen on the day.Normally the decision will be made at the ASRA AGM as to where the next years Nats will be. This years AGM was on the 22 Nov and the decision on 2015 Nats was for it to be at Wondai again. Nobody else put up there hand. Not much use saying afterwards that " we could of had it at Joe Blows place". If Joe Blow does not put in a nomination on time what good is that? Some body has to be prepared to do all the work beforehand and during the event. Rumpelstiltskin is not going to magically turn up the night before and weave all your straw into gold for you.

At South East Queensland Gyroplane Club annual meeting when we were discussing 2014 nationals and questions were raised as to where 2015 nationals were to be held it was decided by the SEQGC Club that if and only if no one else had put there hand up to run the nationals we would volunteer to do it again rather than have no nationals in 2015. Always keen to go on a flying trip Russ. When it gets a bit closer let me know where you have in mind and i will see if it fits in with my semi-retirement schedule.... 95% sure i will be flying to Wondai anyway.

Its only overloaded if it wont fly.

I would be thinking about control stick/head limits.....

Re overweight gyros.I"m with Birdy - if you"ve used up 3/4 of your available runway, at full bottle and not increasing in speed, and your rotor rpm is 450 and the wheels are still rubbin" the ground - then you"re way overloaded. Close the throttle and give up.All that happens with overloaded gyros is your rotor rpm goes up and your rate of climb goes to zero. All other characteristics such as control-ability, control stick deflection, tilt and teeter stop clearances all will remain the same. Those of us who have flown very low powered gyros will know what being overloaded (aka overweight for the power available) feels like: the pucker factor is extreme as you sit with an unchanging airspeed watching the uncomfortably close landscape go by as you climb at 5 feet per minute. While the minimum allowable acceptable climb rate for an ASRA registered gyro is 250 fpm, it sometimes happens that a combination of a really hot day, overweight pilot, full tank of fuel getting stale, and carbies or throttle not quite set up right all conspire to dramatically rob the gyro of climb rate. Add to that the gyro being a bit behind the power curve by being pulled into the air rather than flying itself off, and you have a recipe for 2 1/2 feet per minute climb if you"re lucky. This is why people have sometimes hit fences at the end of runways.Cheers,Mark R
