quote:Originally posted by TimThats where the problem lies Wal. The endorsing T/A has to know that no modifications have been made, not just be told by the owner. It is the T/A's neck on the line so he would be a fool to sign the rego form sight-unseen. We know this has been done in the past and this is what is trying to be stamped out. There has already been two cases that I am aware of where a machine has been signed off without even having the compulsory AD's done, and both machines ended with fatalities. It could not be conclusively proven that the lack of compliance had any bearing on the accident so the cases were closed, but they were classic cases of T/A's not following correct procedure. Tim McClureThanks Tim. So, we don't have a black and white yes answer yet, but that's fine. The members are getting info and that is why I started this post.Regards, Aussie Paul.[]www.firebirdgyros.com

quote:Originally posted by TimAs it stands, a two seat gyro registration renewal has to be endorsed by a T/A other than the owner/operator. It may not require inspection if the T/A is familiar with the aircraft and knows that it has not been modified since last renewal. This is only a renewal and not a complete compliance inspection. Any modifications that could affect the flight performance, relaibility or safety of the aircraft have to be re-assesed as per the Approved Gyroplane Standards. The current ruling is under review, but it is doubtful if the intent of the ruling will change.Tim McClure

G'Day Wal.".I was familiar with your machine when I built it Wal and I have only seen it once since then (many years ago) I would be lying if I signed the renewal stating that I know that it has definately not been modified in any significient way since last renewal. I do not even know if any modifications were done when Robby Glen owned the machine.I do believe you when you state what modifications have been made, but the intent of the rule is that the endorsing T/A becomes responsible for ensuring that the Gyroplane has not been modified, or that modifications done will pass the standards. "When a new board member(s) is inducted to the board, do you as president request that they familiarise themself with the ASRA CONSTITUTION"?I do not understand the relevance of this question Wal but the answer is yes, in fact all members should be familiar with the ASRA ConstitutionThe renewal rule will be looked into but until it is, the ruling will have to stand, but in the mean time, we would welcome any relevant input from interested members like yourself.Sorry I appear to be ignoring you Wal but we are faced with a more important issue at the moment. A Coroner has recommended the grounding of all Gyroplanes forthwith and we are trying to work around this one, together with the silly season, where we must respect the rights of the other Board members to spend time with their families. The recommended grounding is over the hub-bar issue where the Coroner is effectively recommending that ASRA do more technically to ensure the safety of ASRA members.Hope you had a good Xmas and follow with a happy new year.Tim McClure

Guys,I appologise but I have not been avail for the last week or so as I promised the family I would concentrate on them and focus on the construction of our new house and the move our new property(read room for more aircraft projects once I complete my wifes dream house so she can move out of the shed!)Yes we have issued the Required AD's etc but because Gyros are the subject of other Coronial investigations we need to deal with this very carefully. The feedback I have been getting is that most of the membership appreciate that we are clarfying the rules and introducing manageble change to preserve what we have. As ASRA Board Members have been advising members for the past few years we have slowly getting our act together and are being recognised as a competent and respected area of sports aviation. This doesnt always mean we get every thing right first time. I believe our President Tim has been quite clear regarding the recent ammendment to the OPS Manual - it is under review! so please comply with the rules as they are published whilst we do a proper review. I remind people that there are a number of competent TA's willing to review your two seaters and I even provide a remote service for those of you in remote areas. So please communicate with the Board so we know your views and can take all the facts into consideration before decisions are made.I hope your christmas has gone well and you are aviating or building(Aircraft not houses!) at every opportunity.Regards,Adrian S

hmmmm........... i'm only a scg but, i think buggered if i know wot i think.Wal rang me a while ago bout this and i didn't , and still can't think of a simple answer to wot can potentialy be a major safty problem.[ 2 seater operaters sigening off thier own machines]The problem is, itd be irrisponsable for the board to allow 2 seater fliers to sigen off their own machines, and its also rediclus to think a tech bloke would cum out ere to inspect my machine, or me to take it to the nearest one.[ is there one in the NT??]And Adrian is put'n his head well n truly on the block with the 'remote' setup. Afterall, he is 'trusting' alota people he don't know.Theres gota be some way of makeing 'self sigenoffees' responsable, so any stuffups are on their heads, not the boards.[ or Adrians]I'll go back to scg'n now.Ignorance is bliss............but only till you realise you were. You can always get the answer you want, if you ask enough experts.
