Very well written, Mike. Can yer tell me what that $%@$%&** "hyroglyphic" word means. I carn't seem to find it in the dictionary. Seriously, I think you take Pete a bit out of context with the JCL jibe. In our own way, we are all JCL's. The problem was that Ted was wanting to change the rules of the Association/forum when he was only 5 minutes in. That was the problem. Ted was trotting out the old "freedom of speech" routine. There is no "freedom of speech". There is only what you can pay for. All of the members of ASRA pay for the web site facility and are entitled to make rules for its use. I ( for one) voted in the elections for the committee and board. I suspect a lot of others did too. I am therefore happy for them to make the rules in the interests of the association. You will find 95% are happy with the rules and are prepared to abide by them. The others are welcome to stand for election on their platform of rule changes. And if we want to get real pedantic, the "free speech" movement is getting into Pete for exercising his freedom of speech by giving it to the JCL's.(sic)This is the last post (from me). At least until Anzac day.

G,day Fred. The continuing use of this forum (and others) by individuals who virtually spam the myriad of topics with nonsensical commentary is tiresome and consequentially rather difficult for JCL's to learn constructively of just what is usefull to know within gyro aviation.Obviously their flock is small and I realise they do not represent the views of the greater number of silent members. Someone once said that "evil flourishes when good men remain silent" too.The perpetual use of bad manners, often utilising concurrent profanity that (in no small way) initiated this topic, rightfully galvanised the subsequent action taken by the Moderator to curtail such abberant behaviour. Lets hope we can get back on topic and the learned aviators out there can again regale us with their exploits, adventures and wisdom for the benefit of us newbies and the new readers considering joining the gyro aviation fraternity. My late father allways said "We lead by example".Mike

I think the newbys need to concider how the old coots mite respond when a newby starts waffl'n on, with an obviose lack of experiance, tell'n other newbys wots right n wots wrong. Most of those old coots are post'n for one reason only, to try n prevent everybody else from make'n the same mistakes they did. [ they could be selfish basterds and sit back n laugh as the same mistakes keep be'n made.]I know thats not wot this thread is about, but it was bort up, and may explain the occasional 'harsh' responce from the experianced.Ignorance is bliss............but only till you realise you were. You can always get the answer you want, if you ask enough experts.

My father taught me to show respect to the special people like Barry who dedicate themselves to helping their community, not the ones who appear to want to fragment it. All groups need volunteers and if anyone wants to contribute in a tangible way they only need to put their hand up.Pete

Hi Wal and Nick, sorry but no. I created this forum to encourage and share the development and knowledge of gyroplanes and matters relating to that sport only. I have thought of including an "Off Topic" forum but then, that could be defeating the purpose. Each affiliated club does have there own forum whereupon each of these can be moderated by their own representative. Perhaps this may be an alternative to what you both might like to consider.Barry Ferguson,ASRA WebmasterPh (07)5464-4993Int +61 7 5464-4993logic will get you from A to B - imagination will take you anywhere

Barry,That sort of defeats our purpose. What if there is a 'management issue' that we wish to sort out privately within the organisation [let us say we wish to call a plebocite on a particular issue] and it may involve what has previously been described as 'dirty linen' which you at times have chosen to delete seemingly without a great deal of consideration, I think you know which I am refering to.There are a large number of forums where there is a private 'members only' part of the forum, and the public interface, considering it is the members who are funding the site, either partially or wholly, that is who it is there to serve, not the general public, they are secondary to the members needs. If you think about it, we could be held to ransom by a suit from a public person who may have decided to learn how to fly and / or build based on what is published here, and I'll refer you to the likes of 'Bob K' in this instance. I know certain members of the board are concerned of the chance of being sued for the loss of a soul, but how tragic would it be if it were not one of the membership and they got their a....s kicked for it? I think you're leaving us wide open by having this as a public forum, and not a private one as it should be.Regards,Nick.

Fred, What a load of poppy ****. I have never wanted to change the rules at all. I simply want the rules adhered too. Bones, had his post deleted for using a hyroglyphic type word, and that is fair enough, but when our vice president used it, the post still stood. Why? Simple because Barry didn't apply the rules across the board. If its good enough for one to be deleted so should have the other. The fact that Fred can't even quote me accurately in his loosely worded rebuttal, doesn't diminish my point one iota.TedStrongly opposed to the retriction of free speech

Yes I understand where you are coming from Nick, something a lot of us are very much aware of and yes, private forums can be arranged. What sort of private forum did you have in mind and who should access it? Perhaps we can enter into this on another forum here open to discussion, this one is preferably for ASRA info, start another thread perhaps in the Gereral Forum Nick, but give it some thought first.Barry Ferguson,ASRA WebmasterPh (07)5464-4993Int +61 7 5464-4993logic will get you from A to B - imagination will take you anywhere

We are all acting like school kids. We all accept that Barry is the head umpire on this forum and as such he makes the decisions on standards. Barry has been doing a briliant job on running this site, and unless the dissenters can produce a perfect performance from themselves, they should not expect likewise from our hard-working volunteers. Let's forget this rubbish here and now and get on with the interesting discussion about what makes gyros tick. What do you say?Pete

Ah, for pete's's sake! What embarrassment? Where?'We' does not include me when you refer to school kids, go tar and feather yourselves with the same brush but don't include me.Barry is the forum administrator, he is not the umpire, he does not make the decisions on standards, the members do. This is a members forum, period. It does not belong to the general public and it is only by our good grace that it is available for them to view, in my opinion your entry to the forum should mean you are a pilot of some description, end of story. What has been posted is not rubbish, shame on you for saying it is. John Evans always tells me the only stupid question is the one that is not asked. As you may know, one question may lead to an answer that will lead to another question which in turn may provide a solution to a critical issue or problem. The problem with what happens and has happened is that with the 'slash and burn' model of censorship we have witnessed here on occassions has led to the elimination of some gems of information amongst what I might deem to be raw ore, the baby has been thrown out with the bath water before. In suppressing what some people have had to say we risk losing in some instances the keys to many a puzzle.Grrrrr,Nick.
