  • EJ22 Belt Drive (Amax style?)

    Hi guys,Just looking at the RAF 2000 on the "For Sale" thread.....Can anyone give me some information on the Belt drive being used on that machine.

    Think again useing the belt system on the ej series.............a number of hard luck stories about.[ call waddles, he loves em......RAF ones.........yea right ]

      Paul,To save you the search, the belt drives Russ is referring to tend to crack the crank shaft at inconvenient moments... not good due to the sudden loss of power.A gear box may be a better arrangement for you as from what I know, there are no belt drives which permit the prop shaft to be slugn under the line of the crank shaft, which is very helpful in setting your thrust line geometry to centre line thrust.Cheers,Nick.

        I had a belt drive [Amax] on an EA 81 and I wasnt wrapped at all and with a 2.2, I would be very cautious about going down that road. There really is only one way to go and thats an Autoflight gearbox, problems solved and no worries about a belt loosing its cogs !! Thats my opinion .
