  • Electric trim

Own a tandem 2 seater, getting the right stick feel is bloody near impossible every time a diferent weight gets in the front....until 2 years ago..... Get an electric car window motor ( I used a landcruiser one)Get a small spool machined up to fit over the shaft, mount it on the mast , run a bowden wire up to a spring on your torque tube.Install wiring and self centering switch in reach, hey presto pull switch 1 way, motor winds tension on, or push switch the other way, motor lets tension off. When you release the switch it is impossible to get the motor to unwind etc,Now 2 years old, never let me down. Safe flying.....RDC

Russell and Birdy. Do you think that there is any need to prevent a runaway trim motor?Aussie Paul. []www.firebirdgyros.com

One of the benefit of a full electric trim is to get rid of some stuff, inside the cabin of a RAFlike gyro, which can hurt you in a non-lethal crash...salutations []André Martin.Québec; CANADA.

Paul,Two toggle switches wired in series should do it - both have to be on for it to work. Same as for dual ignition, both have to be off for it to stop.Hope this helps,Nick.

Hi Russell, Can you post a picture of the trim setup on the head?I reckon it would help with a problem I am having at the moment with my side by side.I might be able to come over your way midyear if plans stick together.I'll get in touch when I'm sure.regardsDave Ellis

The Spanish ELA gyros have an electrically actuated pnematically adjusted trim, difficult to spell, a bit complicated, but very cool having a "hat" on the control stick, I didn't notice what I was looking at untill I noticed a small 12v air compressor under the rear seat, followed the lines up to a cylinder near the rotor head...Not sure how it rates in the KISS factor.....Art...

Arthur,Could not agree with you more about the Kiss principle, had an electric unit on my two place, got rid of it and replaced it with a small hand brake (rachet and Paull), to tension the spring, click, click, click etc, it also alowed me to "dump" the spring pressure when using my prerotator system. All the best.Pete Barsden

Dellis.......will send photos next week. This trim is over 2 years old, never caused a problem, and it get's worked constantly. Next time you go past a landcruiser with elec windows, try pulling one down or pushing it up........bloody impossible. cheers RRDC

I think Pete Barsden's car handbrake arrangement is about the simplest way to do this effectively. Light, positive and adjustable any time on the ground or in the air.R.J.W.S.
