Thanks Greg...I always have trouble posting the right size photos. The 2007 subie desiel looks promising and may be an option before the Zoche, Nick. We just need a couple write-offs in the new model and we"re there.I had a look a the video of the Zoche and it looks neat. It would look better on the back of my gyro though.Zoche looks like they need some extra cooling in pusher type setup after I read the FAQ"s.Keep "em coming though, we"re already gettin closer.Hoges

Here"s another couple. I sent them an email requesting price, availability etc but I think it will be too heavy for the HP for a gyro at 98 kgs and only a 100hp.http://www.dair.co.uk/ Check it out anyway, and here is the link to the page where a whole bunch of other engine makers are as well. http://www.ultraligero.net/Sitios/Mo...otores.htmGood one Fred. Were you able to join their group and find out what"s happening?Hoges

Here"s an interesting aero deisel engine article;http://www.wilksch.com/todays_pilot_nov03.htmlJeez they"re heavy bloody things for the horsepower! Have a look at this one;http://www.wilksch.com/Got to find something lighter I think, and cheaper. The WAM 120 is about $23,000 USD and weighs 127kg"s! What does a subie EJ22 weigh with redrive, prop etc..... I should know I s"pose.Hoges

Dewie,That is something I would like to understand better. The relationship between HP and Torque. The Dair diesel is 100hp and weighs 97kgs or so. Quite heavy for the HP. But, what is the relationship between it"s HP/Torque compared to a Subie EJ 22? Maybe this engine is perfect for a pusher gyro. Sounds a bit underpowered to me though. I would like an engineer comment on this relationship. Maybe we only need 100hp but with massive torque, I don"t know.Any techos out there able to explain the precise numbers required for a 2 seat gyro trainer diesel engine? If we can achieve selection criteria for power/torque curve it will be a lot easier to select a suitable engine.I think the aero certified diesels are great but an auto direct drive diesel option would be really good to replace the Subie etc.Hoges

OK, Here"s something more like what we need except again for the weight. http://www.centurion-engines.com/At 150kgs it"s a bit of a beast but with 135hp and the ability to run on Jet A1 or diesel (or biodiesel of course) we"re getting closer.I have no idea of the price but will find out.Hoges

I"ve been searching the net for info on the Jodel diesel with the PSA engine with not a lot of luck so far.Does anyone have any links? It"s starting to look like the answer might be a PSA diesel engine but with a redrive, unless we can go for a more powerful engine and work it at lower rpm for the same power output. It would be great to get some power and torque graphs for these engines as well as weights, and where to buy.Hoges

Hi Fred and All, I sent Hans an email and as yet had no response. I have also sent Wilsch aeromotive an email as they have 100 and 120hp three cylinder diesel engines that weigh about 100kgs. Heavy but still in the paddock.I am also testing an electric motor drive for a gyro at the moment and will have some test results in the next two to three weeks, time permitting. I don"t expect to replace the carbon burner just yet though. I"ll be happy with totally electric flight for the length of the runway for a start.I pretty much have everything I need to do some tests as friends of mine from the Australian Electric Vehicle Asociation have generously loaned me a motor and someone else has loaned me a prop for the "try", my EM (electric motorcycle, see www.locating.com.au/ebikes) which is now on it"s third rego in NSW, will provide the battery power at 96 volts DC with it"s 200 amp on board motor controller. I will be able to measure current drawn and battery voltage during testing but will need someone to loan me a non contact (optical) tacho to measure prop RPM and some scales to measure thrust. Any offers appreciated.I"ll keep you posted.Hoges
