Harley Newman's gyro had an R engine, R100 I think, i.e. a boxer twin, from memory the one on the museum was direct drive with a small diameter prop, but very wide chord. I'm pretty sure it was turboed. I never saw Harley fly, but he was a legend.Interesting about that vibe in the K100, mine doesn't vibrate the footpegs, but it sends my right hand to sleep from a vibration at expressway speeds so I fitted a cruise control from K Mart. It works well and you can wave to other Bikers with your right hand! It also helps avoid speeding fines, it just makes some corners more interesting.Actually the K is fairly smooth at the revs we'd be interested in. I think you will find most of the inline fours have these vibes.TRIVIA DEPTDid you know that those lumpy things on the ends of big bike handlebars are actually tuning devices to counter the handlebar vibes? The trouble is I found they tend to fall out and get lost when tuned for legal expressway speedsJohn EvansThink logically and do things well, think laterally and do things better.

John, could you tell us a bit more about that cruise control thingy ?Sounds like it might be just the thing for the big Suzuki. My Bro inlaw road raced an R100 Boomer back the sixties. FlorianCamathias was winning everything in the outfits in Europe at the time so me inlaw wanted one and bought racing bits from the factory. It was a beaut thing to ride.Cheers.Robert DunnMackay. The cruise control unit I use is sold by K Mart. I have one on the car as well as on the Coaster. On the BMW I use the 5 volt square wave signal to the speedo from the sender in the back axle instead of the usual magnet and sensor. It's fairly slow to take up its setting as the vacuum for the servo is tapped off one throttle body. The hardest bit of the installation was accessing the throttle cable segment on the throttle body shaft.Otherwise the fitting is just a matter of following the instructions.Last time I looked they were costing a bit over $100.John EvansThink logically and do things well, think laterally and do things better.

I have always used the K Mart cruise controls and found them to be very good. I think they may be closer to the $200 mark now.Tim McClure

Eric have been trying for a week or so, and it looks like you have moved on now any way, but everything seems to have come in through Bert Flood, and well you know what that will be like, so sorry no good.Mark

Thanks Mark, yeah,I know what you mean. I rang Floods when I started to build my first gyro to get a 'C' box, but when I told them it was going on a Subaru they wouldnt supply it. Thanks anyhow. Echo
