  • Gearbox Oil Additive

Gidday Gurus, Experts, Opinionated persons and All,Has anyone tried this product, specifically in Autoflight gearboxes and if so, what is the consensus please? http://www.pro-masystems.com.au/Depa...BrakeTest.aspxI"m running into overheating problems in my 300 hour, 2004 box and am looking for an easy solution other than limiting my training sorties to 30 mins. No problems in longer cruises, but short sorties with on/off power situations cause me some concern. No observed bearing problems, but a rear oil seal leak stops the casing from rusting!!!!Appreciate any comments.Regards,Waddles.

Old mate is using 80-90w oil and 1/4 of the autoflight gearbox"s capacity of moreys oil stabilizer after a farmer had an over heating problem with a header"s thrasher gearbox that was well over the designed temp for it, when they put a mixture of moreys and oil into the thrasher gearbox, it was well below the max designed temp. So old mate did the same to his autoflight, Has worked well for him for the past 200 odd hours now.

Guys,I use Redline oil of the equiv viscosity ratings in all my gyro and race car gearboxs. 100% synthetic and it cures the overheating issues in the NSI redrive. Very expensive but I swear by it based on experience.Just my 10c worth of opinion!I hope you all have a good and safe xmas,Adrian S ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D.

i really think neil h. should be able to do more.installation instructions would be a start and even a parts break down sheet would be better. but to give my tiny bit i really do love the "proma range of oil supplement." notice i didn"t say additive. ;D ;D.

g"day all, I"m pushing 135hp into an auto flight box and provided i change the oil (syntrax) every 25 hrs there"s no trouble. Earlier I tried for more like 50 hrs and the rear seal started to leak. seems ok now but I watch the temp. I used moray"s in my old g40 setup and that seemed ok until the day I tore a few teeth off the pinion shaft. Anyway neil says syntrax at 25 hrs and that"s what i do..........merry xmas safe travels

Ok.........more serious now...........300 plus hrs, no probs to date. Now this is occurring..........is this my reading here.Maybe.........temp sender / gauge is a cause. Are engine temps higher and transferring to gearbox. What i"m getting at, is, are "all" the usual feedbacks of your machines "state of well being" the same.Have noticed that this "syntrax" oil is now sold fully synthetic........not a combo oil ????????........i think ??? ???......or was that the "Penrite oil" ??? ???

I have a "C" box on the back of my 2.2 suby and the gear oil gets changed every 250 hours or when I remember to do it

Interesting mail the other day...............too much oil in the box / sump, causes generated heat......friction is created within, hence heat. Run lower than stated oil quantity, but run top grade oil.so there you go.........maybe ??? ???

Gidday All,Been bush training for a couple of days so it"ll take a bit of catching up. Thanks for the info so far. To answer some questions:The oil temp rises and falls comensurate with engine temp. With our current ambient temps, engine runs up to 95*C during curcuit training and short sorties. Oil temp sits at around 200*F. Noticed yesterday, that after a 1.25 hr flight, cruising at 3500", engine and oil temps returned to "normal" and decreased further during the final cruise descent at lower power settings. So, I reckon this is normal. It"s just the high ambient temps that decrease overall performance and require higher power settings to try to emulate low temp performance resulting in higher operating temps.Have also heard or read that additives should not be used with synthetic oils???????Currently using Syntrax Manual 75W90 oil, with changes at 25 hrs. Thanks again and keep the good gen coming.Seasons compliments to all.Waddles.

Additives are a interesting topic, nearly everyone who uses an additive reckons their particular choice works wonders, yet oil companies wont have a bar of them being used and I can understand why [ warranty etc]I have used a product called Slick 50 over 15 years now and I havent got time to document each thing I have used it on but a couple are interesting and involved a 3 rd party who had no knowledge of what I had done. BTW, yes, I know, its been scientifically proven that slick 50 doesnt work !I have a 1981 Diahatsu diesel tray top that I was using back in the 90"s, I was away working and my cousin was doing the water runs twice a week using this vehicle. Diahatsus are famous for collecting water in the gearbox / transfer case and I made it a habit to change these once a year no matter what so this day I changed the diffs/ gearbox/ transfer case AND used Slick 50 as directed. I didnt do the engine at that time.A couple of weeks later when I got home my cousin asked me what I had done to the Diahatsu, I asked what did he mean?? He said that he found that transmission tunnel was a lot cooler than before as he rested his leg against the tunnel and he had to put some padding there particularly when he wore shorts as it was near hot enough to cause major discomfort but now he said he could rest his leg against the tunnel even when wearing shorts on a really hot day and he was mystified what had caused such a major change. From personal experience over many years I knew exactly how hot the thing got even on a half cool day. I took the vehicle the next day for a water run and despite it being a hot day, the transmission tunnel was in fact a lot cooler than I had ever experienced before and it a felt like the vehicle actually ran "easier" with less throttle than before.
