  • Fix wing ultra light regestrations

A.S.R.A members might not follow Raas.I,m a member of a flying club, and on the week end we had our monthy meeting.I got in formed that Raas are puting a hold on ultra light fix wing regestrations. Some of the members are grounded till raas get things sorted.Well what is going to happen next! This is not what recriational flying is all about.Thank god our rego,s are still go,n ahead?Any other people know exactly what is happening i,d like to hear about it.My fellow members were,nt exactly very talkative to me about this.

I"m a member of RAA as well as ASRA. RAA failed 2 CASA audits, apparently new rego"s we being issued when updated info regards changes made to planes, engines, props and whatever, without the necessary paper work being finalised or even included. The CEO sacked the Tech manager and then resigned himself. So there are quite a lot of people very upset their businesses are effectively grounded because rego"s are halted. It"s all being sorted. Glad that ASRA members pretty much do the right thing.

ASRA has a CASA audit every year. Thanks to the dedicated & hard work of Paul Campell and a team of helpers, ASRA

Not real sure what went wrong with RA Aus but they grew at an enormous rate and possibly the growth might have been a bit quick for the management process. Anyway, its a bad situation, however I"m sure much hard work is being done to get the RAA ship back on even keel.Would love to see ASRA at least double its membership. Lots of hard work has been done without a lot of reward to date.

Unfortunately Brian, If anything ASRA is probably pushing more members away, I know the board do a hard and at times a thankless job, But of late it seems that more and more regulation either forced by CASA or under some idea that if ASRA do if off their own back that it will make things safer? (or at least make it look like they are trying?) The paperwork to just register/transfer a ordinary old Basic gyro now with the whole flight manual and all the flight testing associated with it, is making alot of gyro"s that go it to the bush go unregistered.Yes! there has always been alot of gyro"s and their pilots out in the bush unregistered, but if you wanted to double your membership perhaps start with them, go out and ask them what would it take for those guys to come onto the books and they will say simplicity. if the processes of owning and flying a gyro was kept simple you would be on the right path, along with online registration and payment which i believe is in the process?

Trent........a no questions asked offer to get any unregistered flyers / machines on board, has been in place for many yrs, only a handful took it up to date. I personally know quite a few "bushies" that "joining" asra, or any other type organisation, other than cattlemen / graziers assn etc is not in their "must do".Yes, some of

if the processes of owning and flying a gyro was kept simple Trent.Geez Trent, the process of owning and flying a gyro is simple......probably more rigamarole involved in hiring a poxy cement mixer from Kennards!!The only thing simpler would be no rules, registrations or regulation whatsoever. Is this what you want?By comparison, go take a look at the bullsh*t, bureaucracy, rules, processes and regulations the yanks have to go through to build, buy, own, transfer, provide training and actually fly a gyro. And that is in "the land of the free".You have had a couple of swipes at regulation over the years. Totally unwarranted. We have it better than any other gyro pilots in the world, period. The requirements could best be described as "ridiculously relaxed". If there was no ASRA and its minimal rules, I can guarantee you there would be no gyro flying in this country at all. The path of least resistance for the authorities would be to not allow it at all, as is the case in many countries.Get behind the Board, actively encourage those you know on the "outside" to come "inside" and, be grateful.Miles

I do my best to coax some "bush boys" into asra by telling them advantages, and find some are a little shy as they are smart at what they do but not too good at reading and writing. (reading and writing is not a measurement of intelligence) But they generally make bloody good gyro pilots. Maybe a little slack with the cosmetics.
