The engine idles okay when warm, it will come down to 1200 quite happy Why would you want to idle it at 1200, way below the manufacturers recomendation? It is not a car engine or a Lyco/Cont. Personally, my cold idle is set at 1800 and warm runs around 2000.but old mate set the carbys up so that it goes to full noise if a cable breaksThey leave the factory this way. Ten"s of thousands of them around the world. Maybe they are on to something... Cant imagine the shock you would get finding all of a sudden you got this angry noisy thing driving you through the sky at full noise. Certainly would make the eyes water

I was only checking to see ,when warm how happy the engine was to idle to give me an idea of how it might be tuned so it was a brief test Miles.Yeah, I"m very aware they leave the factory like that and yes, they could well be onto something, however breaking a cable isnt something that I would expect either. Rosco sets all his 912"s up the other way which is interesting, could be he"s onto something as well

Guys,I am in the Rosco camp on this one and set them up to go idle on a cable break. Chopper check out the Rotax manual as there is a requirement for a min idle around 1650 + for the 100hp 912 to minimise harmonic vibration at to low revs that kills gearboxs over time.

Might do you 912 cowboys some good, clear out a few arteries if the cable breaks and at least one of your mag switches is full of dust and won"t switch off the engine. Break you into high altitude flying with a very low horizon untill you run out of fuel
