  • Rotor Size for 912 powered gyros

Was wondering what sized rotors all those 912 single place /pod gyro drivers are using? & how much[ if you know] pitch in the hub bar.I reckon 27"s should be about right but with minium pitch [ .8*] 2 degrees pitch might be too much and slow the rotors down to mayby less than 300 revs. The 26 fter"s I"m running rev around 360 revs & I need 400 revs to keep the ship happy.

Depends wether your priority is efficiancy or rate, wot your average DA is [ i used 26 for winter,27 for summer] and wot blade.

Chopper what is your typicacal Auw mustering?from what you have said it sounds like you need bigger blades. I like to see 325 to 350rrpm with my auw I need 27.5 to 28" . Swap over the blades from the old subi machine that should do the trick.Adrian

Max all up weight would be about 420Kg I think.I put my 27 fter"s on and they have too much bite, revs down to 285. Need to see if I can get another hub bar with .8 of a degree I reckon. Engine revs dropped off the dial, half full fuel & 3200 was plenty but airspeed was lost as well.

Chopper,Looks like 27" blades set at around about 1 deg pitch (AK or Pat) would be ideal. I am a little confused with your stated eng revs as the 912 is happiest at 4800 to 5300 especialy at 400+kg. You need to make sure the prop is not over pitched. I set mine at what ever pitch is needed to allow a static test for WOT (Wide open throttle) at 5800rpm. One of the things you will need to get used to is the 912 likes the revs and is a bit louder than what your subi probably is. Just my 10c worth,Adrian

I will do a static test to see where"s things are at. I have seen 5200 in the air & it had more left.

You cant get around the " power to weight " ratio and with a gyro every exrta pond of weight is like 2 pounds.
