This fire looks like it"s died down a bit so I thought I"d throw a bucket of petrol on it.... I was talking to a chopper pilot Scoota out at Dingo and he used to muster in a R22 but he said it cost him $160,000 per year in maintenance and insurance etc. That"s after a few beers so I"m assuming the facts. Then it became competitive used to be good income but he could not afford the overheads as more choppers come into the game as well as property owners doing it for them selves. Then another fellow that had stacked his chopper 3 times out Roma way last time in hospital for three months won"t fly after 11:00 in summer...nasty thermals. local knowledge lecture from a CFI. Then if I remember correctly the young fellow up 1770 way talking about advantages Gyro auto rotation at a camp 2 weeks later died trying to get auto rotation in his R22 after primary belt failure followed by secondary as it won"t hold torque remember it posted on this ASRA site a while back. I remember 60 minutes...yes check book junk journalism i know. They had a go at R22 about ruptured fuel tanks dropping them from great heights. Do that to any aircraft and see what happens especially if you are flying it. No mention of drive belts though. The investigation finding was drive belt alignment apparently. Where"s the ambiguity....over there in a box. You can pick on any aircraft and you will get a opinionated negative outcome if that"s your objective. It"s all about perspective. Like people afraid of heights in high rise buildings or a lift with a glass bottom floor. It"s all perspective. Like Gyros not suitable for commercial applications...You can"t do that cause your not allowed to. Why...Cause simple Simon says so. And stop asking questions your not allowed to do that either. You don"t get paid to think or ask questions. Over paid and over fed uneducated fat lazy dumb bastards do that, there called politicians and bureaucrats, they make the rules too. Simple...

P.S Sorry I shouldn"t be on this ASRA site it"s not good for me head at present. I knocked myself out in the shed today trying to align a chassis. Set up between two posts with chains slings and block and tackle big bang and knocked me on my ass lots of blood from me head and me legs not working. Big lump on forehead black eye and sore head in general. Looks like a block of wood got me from the right angled imprint on me forehead. Glad it wasn"t the steel hook. Oh cheque book spell check. It appears my attitude took a hit, frustration only makes it worse.
