Just to clarify what you have said MilesW are you talking specifically about 912 engines or rotax engines in general. I have just looked up the rotax manual for my 914 and depending on the air box temperature they recommend RON 98 fuel or RON 95 as a minimum. In your opinion do you think that

Yeah Chopper the oddesy battery"s thrive on neglect a bloody good battery, get what you pay for i guess. The CDI ignition won"t spark less than 300 RPM Crank. designed to stop kick back. These two CDI boxes are very exy as a fella was telling me the other day one of his CDI"s failed and cost him $3000.Ouch. I commented good thing it failed on the ground. He said it will keep running but wont start when it fails. I think I"ll use the love juice in the fuel mix as It did make it run real smooth and easy start. I also got that waterless coolant from Bert flood, lasts a long time and no internal corrosion Gotta put a flush thru it first then the coolant. But I need to check my operating temperatures cause this stuff may make it run a little warmer. Just can"t remember the name of it at the moment it"s at the hanger in a getting around to it box. Heading down to the farm this weekend so i guess it will be next weekend. Looking at putting a strip in down there. So I guess BP ultimate with some flash lube Aero shell oil, chuff soot all it likes. Now that I think of it your 13.3 LPH rings a bell as I was looking at our consumption carrying my instructor and we were talking about 12LPH from memory could have been a good tail wind or that love juice in the tank not sure.

If its cold enough it will still kick back, the funny part is the easiest way to stop this whole problem is right in front of you.If you only turn on 1 of your ignition switches, it will start with out a kick back even at -5*, and to stop the sudden bang when you turn off do the same, turn 1 side off first, then about 15-30 secs latter turn the other 1 off and you will notice the difference, just a couple of things i have picked up.If you workout which side (switch) drops the revs the most when you check the igintions before take off, if you have a very lazy battery only use that side and it will start. Thanks for that Bones, I will try that plus I"m putting a bigger battery in as well cause I havet a clue as to the age of this battery. Jacko told me about using just one carby choke instead of both & that works a lot better. I think its a bit of trial & error . Been too used of that old suby

The battery has gotten real sad, jump started it with a decent battery & the 912 whirred into life very quickly with no kickback, used your tip Bones on stating & stoping & it worked no problems, just have to remember the procedure !My new battery just squeezes in [ Deka ETX 30 LA.

Just thought I"d add a bit to the battery subject, If you have a power point in your shed you can get the plug pack trickle charger from battery world. It has a green/red LED and keeps your battery in good condition while it"s sitting there. It maintains a float voltage once charged. I use them on cars mowers gen set etc, anything with 12V battery that sit in the shed for a while. These units were about $29.00 a few years ago and still working, they have short circuit and polarity protection. Because they are trickle charge i just clip on battery no need to disconnect any thing Could save you some money on battery"s. If you get real cold winters i was told a trick of putting an old electric blanket over your engine to keep it warm may look silly but works well apparently.

Got the new battery in...with a bit of trouble. Gee, you miss not having Rosco do something, a simple bracket that Rosco could whip up in 10 minutes........took two days from a engineering place in town. Wasnt really so simple, it had to be exactly right.Anyway, wheeled her out, took Bone"s advice & the little 912 turned over at a pace much greater than the old battery & fired up with no kickbacks etc. Reqally interesting part was that with my earplugs in, I had been getting a "noise" coming through the UHF, not exactly breaking the squelch but humming away in the background. Now, no noise, peace !!! all quiet.Looking forward to seeing if I get any better rotating now but I reckon I would probably need to put in heavier wiring to do that.
