Not sure why you would put ANY gyro into another category when they are all basically the same Bensen design? Thanks Murray, to me a gyro is a gyro is a gyro.... they all work the same and I see all of the benefits and issues some from each side may have.... I must admit, the most outstanding gyro (in my opinion) I have seen happens to be a certain little wing.

As an owner of a "new generation" gyro I felt that there was an us and them mentality between the factory machines and the home builts until I went to the nationals at Wondai this year and realized that regardless of the machines we fly we all have a passion for gyros. As someone has already said there is no perfect gyro, the single place lightweight machines are fabulous for mustering and incredibly manoeuvrable whereas my machine is good for touring which is the main reason I bought it.I really enjoy talking to the people that have built their own machines as they will obviously have a much more intimate knowledge of the way a gyro works than I will ever have. I recently had an American woman stay with us that has just finished building her own gyro and her passion for gyros is amazing.Whether we like it or not the new generation machines has opened up the sport to a whole new demographic which either can"t or don"t want to build their own machines, and I would like to think there is plenty of room for all of us.

Thanks Rick, I just want to stress again, I like ALL gyros, my preference at this moment is open frame and lighter weight, but that doesn"t say I detest euro tubs, if anyone thinks that, if I won lotto I would prove them wrong quick smart ;DMy whole reasoning for this post, as well as just to stir up some discussion, is because I don"t want to see the more basic machines fade away and disappear. New gens have their place, basic machines need their place too (IMO) (with all the bike comparasins, maybe we should call basics, naked? ;D)I am suggesting that I can see a divide, and I think for the nakeds to survive and be seen, they have to be acknowledged in their own right, my feeling is that if you put 3 basics and a euro beast together, the general spectators seem to perve at the euro and see the basic as a "novelty"

So, getting back on topic.... remembering that I am not knocking anyone for their choice of gyro, the two main types both fit in perfectly, however, they are different and both extremely good in their own designed useage (paddock bashing or touring). You cant compare a Gold Wing and a motor cross bike..... same as you cant compare a euro cruiser and a basic gyro..... should we think about "best ofs" and perhaps different

Yes M Muz, there should always be a home made category. The sport would be a bit dull if we werent allowed to develope our ingenuity and build new models. If I had a spare 90 grand I would like to build a push pull centreline thrust 2 x 90 HP 912 craft. I recon you could make it light, and especially reliable for long water crossings. Timor hear I come -- Yeee Haaar!

Great idea..... I guess that is why the regs say that we are only allowed gyros with one engine and one prop..... just in case someone wanted to make a "Cessna caravan" type of gyro.... lolI just think if there is a category for judging of basics as well as tubs, people will tend to lift their game and make better quality home builts..... and while actually cleaning and polishing, they might find problems or whatever they might not have if they weren"t looking so hard

There is 2 categories.....Thems that want one...Thems that got one.....Side note......with engines and now gyros, that perform brilliantly, safely, etc etc.....be nice to see 3.....4 seaters legitimised.......maybe one day ??
If you aim for nothing, you'll hit it every time

Brett, as I have said and will say again, I like the euro clones as much as I like the open frame or home built machines, they are all gyros, they are all great. My fear is that the homebuilts might fade into non existence if they don"t keep being seen and appreciated, which may not happen in the shadow of the new factory machines. That is why I suggest that it might be good if the two types of gyro have their own category to be judged in (asthetically speaking)For example, if you have a car show, and people show their commodores, falcons and jap cars.... then Joe Blow turns up with a Ferrari or Lambo.... who do you think will win best of show?
