    Hi All,I"ve done my training and exams ( with Bruce ) , and I"ve got my gyro built ( and signed off by Ian a while back), and I"m now in a position to solo and do my first 5 hrs.

    Just get up there and fly.I had no 1 supervise me for my first 5hrs.Make sure u leave plenty of space between u and the ground when ur up there.Only fly in conditions that u feel comfortable in.Dont be fright,n to do go arounds if u don"t like ur land,n approach,s.Well that"s what I did.

      So where"s bruce, trained by him, so where is he at this time.You and him, nice calm morning, no onlookers, both of you talking on the radio as you get airborne, and when she lifts off, stick forward build airspeed to around 50ish +, then gently let her climb, maintain that 50ish and just keep climbing climbing, get to a nice height around thou, back off power as you move stick forward to achieve level flite, adjust throttle and stick to achieve level flite at 50kts.Now take a breath, and enjoy your moment.........you have achieved a dream........solo flite. Just now fly and at some point start your flite back into circuit, get into a loooong final leg, ease off power a tad, adjust stick to maintain 45kts, slowly loose height, play with stick and throttle as needed............now get down onto strip at about 3...5 mtrs, now adjust throttle and stick to again achieve 50ish its.........now fly the full length of the strip at that 3.....5 mtrs, power up and again let her climb........then do the whole thing again....get height, back into circuit, another strip run just as you have done........all the time you and instructor are talking..............then when YOU are feeling real good about this flying solo thing.......bring her in to land...........remember if she ain"t STRAIGHT she don"t touch the ground ( rudder, rudder ) when you"ve decided it"s landing time, set your engine revs to about 2500 on short final, control airspeed by that stick 45ish.....let her float on down mtr or 2 above the ground, easing stick back washing off speed, raising nose as well, and just let her touch ground, rite at that moment pull off your power, and maintain ground control........blades, steering etc......come to a FULLSTOP rite there, stop your blades, taxi to shed, shut her down, go take a p1ss, grab a cup of coffee, sit down, relax..........and pat yourself on the back for a job well done.Then go do it all again.............remember 2 important things........airspeed is good, and STRAIGHT on touchdown.............go fly pal

        Buzz - you lucky guy. This moment will stay with you forever (I can still remember both my first solo fixed wing (1973) and first solo gyro (1997)).Russels advice is spot on - all of it.And be aware that your single seater will be twitchy as compared to the 2 seat trainers that you have been used to. I found that flying the 3-5 meter above the strip will highlight your accuracy - take your time and enjoy. The mark of a good pilot is a "go around".Regards.....Chook.

            Murrays post is the reality of if it goes pear shaped, there"s no reset button in this game !!I recently bought a new single place gyro, fairly similar to the one I have clocked over 6,000 hours in. Got it home, checked out and did about 30 minutes taxying getting the feel of the gyro. Did another 30 minutes later in the day applying more power and balancing on the main wheels, once again feeling out throttle & controls. Put it in the shed for the night. Next morning was calm, did one run balancing, felt comfortable so on the next run using a lot of strip, I took off, prepared to cut the power & land if I didn"t feel comfortable, however, I felt okay, gauges were good so I continued the climb out to 500 feet, leveled out, set cruise power &

              Thank you for your good advice Justin,here is a photo of the last recent death from unauthorized solo operations(Involving an ASRA member,there has been another since involving a non member)Yup.Buzz, dont solo solo.Have sumome there who KNOWS how you and machine are matched, at least for the first coupla hours.And theres nuthn ***** bout crow hopes [ flyn a foot off the deck from end to end], they are the best n safest way for a nervous newby to get accustomed to the very different feel ofa light single machine. Alot safer n startn to **** yourself at 100".The only thing worse n thinkn " wish i was up there" while your on the ground is thinkn " wish i was down there" wen your up.

                G,day, Buzz,If you can find an instructor that will come with you to Wondai, do so, as the traffic up here is very light, accom is here on the airfield, at a very good price and the runway is great. Hanger available to put your gyro in overnight. I can be reached on 41635175. Darrell

                    HI All, just a quick update here to let you all know that thanks to Bruce, I was able to do my first (supervised) solo ( many hops of varying height/s, and some circuits) on Friday last week ( at Watts Bridge).
