Ross,we have had an Avmap EKP for 2 years now and its nothing short of fantastic with features that I"m still learning about. Colour is great, even in direct sunlight and picks up satellites even in the shed. They are pricey and if you have the time, it would pay to buy from the USA.It cant make a cake but Rosie does that so well anyway ;D

I had the "installed" smoke escape from me dash a few years back, and i recon its a good grounding device. Once the last moo went through the gate, i landed. I replaced the smoke with sum thin orange wire, and it appears to make a good substitute, so far.

Hi RossI am currently looking into purchasing a Garmin 296 or 496. Most pilots use and swear by them.My current best price is $1545regard Sam.....I got a 296, man if you need anything more than what they offer you got some serious hangar problems, they got terrian alert, artifical horizon(for those night time flights) lots of other stuff that i never even looked at yet, everything you should ever need i feel.

The 296 is a great GPS, no problems there but the Avmap kills it for screen size. The downside to the AVmap is that it has no built in antenna and as far as I"m aware, has to run from a power source AND last I looked, was around $2400.For what I do & want, that large screen is a winner.

My daughter works at Optus and recently I got to play with her new "i" Phone. Text and Web access etc.Shawn ....RotorHead on the US forum posted a link to a download application for the i phone which turns it into a GPSI believe it can be found here.....http://www.motionx.com/?Page=MotionX-GPS&View=VideosIf you are looking for a Blackberry type phone, the iphone is touch screen and the next model will be 32GB, current 8 gb model you can buy outright for approx $800, the 16GB is around $880 outright. The motion X GPS will improve with time but is already a bloody good application.6 months from now an 8 GB will be around $700 so a phone that is a online computer and GPS all in one becomes a very viable alternative.Mitch
