  • No Spark on 503 DCDI any ideas

Ok I"ve got no spark on a 503 DCDI and I"m looking for a few others to have some input here if you are in the know. It was running and I warmed the engine up then shut down got strapped in and sorted and went to start it again and ...... would not start. Have checked for spark on both sets of plugs by pulling out the plugs and looking for spark as it winds over and there"s none. I am wondering what could have happened between shut down and trying to start again. Also on closer inspection the shorting wires (yellow and black) were showing evidence of having being hot at some stage as the protecting sheath was soft and frayed in spots with wire showing, this may also be due to the age of the set up (motor is 1990 vintage). I did cover these wires with some shrink wrap and tested for spark just in case but no good. Have also disconected the shorting wires and had a live system so as to eliminate the switches which also ended in no spark present. So i"m now looking at the rest of the set up and i"m wondering what could have broken to stop both circuits other than the stator having a malfunction or both pick ups or coils, quitting at the same time. Any comments ideas welcome before i dive into the innards of the flywheel.Matt.

May be the stator, I replaced the original in my Rotax 582. This does 2 things, it charges your battery using one set of coils, and and also produces power for your ignition system from a second set of coils. Here are 2 pics of mine during the change over.Cheers SamL.............
