Horizontal Stabilizer

Hi All, I am thinking of building a airfoil stab to be mounted in the prop blast.So what I want to know is if the airfoil section used is asymmetrical or symmetrical? How important is the choice of actual airfoil? I am hoping the actual airfoil is unimportant because then I can make it to suit the spars and not have to worry about ribs to keep it the exact shape.Mastic

Mastic, The normal HS on a Tall Tail is symmetrical but is tilted forward one or two degrees.Image Insert: 69.41

Murray, looks like a Patronney prop,the redrive adapter looks like a Broken Hill item.......& the tail , I know who makes that. Are you making pods? Seeya

Hey Eric, yep patroney prop,71 inch. The adaptor came from SA, Yes still making the pods.Mastic, the forward tilt is basically to keep the nose up the faster you go,the engine is level on Tall Tail models.And contrary to some belief there is abundance of rudder even with engine stopped.M Barker

Birdy,do you reckon its coz e's got a guts ache ?I'm only a newbie but would't that intersect point on the back of his knee be his COG makin him unstable & that be the reason for the nose down tilt.Cheers,Phil YoungGunningbland

Thats not me in the photo, thats Rod Shaw checking out the gyro before I flew it for the first time.How did we get from "Horizontal Stabilizer's" to "Throwing up" in just a few posts???M Barker
