  • Digital flight instruments

Asia Pacific Light Flying are advertising in RAA for digital flight instruments. I just checked out their website www.lightflying.com.au & reckon they would suit gyros . Do you guys know of anyone that has tried these instruments [?]. Echo

Echo, have a chat with Mitch, as the Butterfly's are fitted with them. Sam.Image Insert: 54.74

echo this was discussed last year and I commented that given my experience with digital readouts, still don,t come close to an anologe gauge especially when set up in clusters and calibrated that the needles point north, quick scans are easier in this format, with digitals in most situations and equipment you will find an audible warning also as backupfor obvious reasonsjust my two cents worthCheers PockyWombootaboundry rider

Pocky, I must have missed that discussion . I have to agree with your point on the anologe , scanning your guages is easy when set up like that. Thanks Sam , I will have a yarn to Mitch . Eric

Echo,The ASX1...airspeed/altimeterand the EMS (Engine Management Systems are great Units.Originally had the 2.25" but with my own failing eyesight and the mean age of the gyro fraternity, I now strongly recommend the 3" units. Very easily read and lots of info. Bonus for basic Butterfly is the little gel cell battery which is charged off the rotax reg/rectifier in a closed system, installed in the instrument pod.For those who have 2.25" units, Aircraft Spruce now have a flex arm system with a magnifier mounted, placed strategically it allows the smaller screen of the EMS unit to be read quite easily The ASX 1 unit as a 2.25" can still be read easily enough. But again I think if one were considering electronic, go the larger screen. Cheers,Mitch

G'day guys,The best thing about the digital instruments are you can change the backlighting and contrast to suit the flight conditions. This is for my 2 seater.Image Insert: 53.52 KBimage resized by AdminRegards,ChristopherLockwood Sth. VICSpeaking without thinking; is like shooting without taking aim - Spanish Proverb

Looks good Chris. Am guessing that the centre panels are circuit breakers , did you fabricate them yourself? Mitch, I was thinking of the 3.5" Flight 11 & running separate standard engine monitoring guages ( similar to the pic Chris posted ). Thanks Eric
