  • Learning to Fly ....What was difficult for you?????

I want to get some discussion happening on what parts of learning to fly you found the hardest? What were

The thing that helped me understand the sensitivity of control was flying the length of the strip at 5 or 10 ft above the centreline trying to keep it straight and level. Robbie Glenn did this with me and it made everything gel. The ground and line provided a

I’ll start it …………..For me the most challenging thing to master was the rudder. I’d done a bit of trike flying, and spent too long as a kid in a billy cart, so I had to concentrate very hard

For me it was getting the FW ways out of my head like learning to land at the end of the strip instead of the start of the strip.I had to work hard like Des, at getting used to have nothing around you and I nearly forgot, Roscos elbow in my ribs now and again ;D ;D

Wot was difficult?Geez, where do i start? ???The rudder wasa problem, see"n as that f%$# trike was backwards. >Fear of hights.[ spent my first 3 hours under instruction with me eyes closed, coz ol mate went to 300" every time we left the ground] Paranoid of rough air.[ trike induced paranoia]But, i did git plenty of engine out practice with the ol soob. ;DMy main trouble now is brain space, findn sumwhere to store memory of the " sumthn new every day" thing. :

ahm,Wiping the smile off my face after the first solo, definitely the hardest... next to doing a perfect engine out landing outlanding [as in away from the air strip] and trying to wipe the grimmace off my face after I bent my rotors and broke the prop... boo hoo, and then, trying to remove the unmove-able appreciation that if you are going to crash an aircraft, a gyro is the way to go, the survivability just seems soooo much better..Cheers,Nick.

I did what Ken did, used a telescopic antenna off a Tele. Replaced it with a garden drip feed tube with a piece of fencing wire up the guts, you can punish it and bend it about no probs. Not that I need it there now but a handy reference none the less.Flying was fun and really had to focus like Ross, do the tail wiggle, several times on final to get it set in the head. Truth be told, I still give her a wiggle on final every time. Luv the "falling out the door" feeling when banking in a RAF and open frame is a hugh rush, so what"s not to like. I was worried about engine out practice in Butterfly but after the first time, standing on the pegs and aiming that gyro like a dart at the dirt, ........... luvin it. I try to land simulated engine out most of the time now. Finally, surviving my own stupidity, this was my greatest feat. ;D Hey Ross, have you got any students on the boil?Cheers,Mitch
