Right so to start this off abit of back ground. The student was at the minimum 15 hrs dual, nearly ready to go, he just had to give me an hr of safe landings nd he was right in my mind to go for his solo, so the training was abit disrupted, weather and such, and the fact he lived 7hrs drive away, made for some pressure to get this finished. So the usual feeling of lets go fly and just take off nad land 6 times next hr and your right, the first 2-3 landing were safe, passable landings, then the next 40 mins were holy cr*p, either flaring at 10" or trying to bury the nose wheel in the bitumen. To say i was dissapointed was an understatement, but hey next hr he be fine, the next hr, was nearly the same, just couldnt give me 6 good landings in a row.So over the next 3 weeks or so, we managed another 12 odd hrs, and it was not improving 1 bit, in fact he was getting worse, the longer it was taking the more frustrated the student was getting, and he was trying harder and harder it was not working, and it was really playing on my mind too.It just so happened that I needed some an bolts and Dennis is a good listener and an instructor himself, I was telling him of my frustrations with the latest student, he asked me to describe the problems, afterwards he looked at me and said, send him to get his eyes checked for depth perception, he had a student years ago, with the exact same problem, and it turned out he needed glasses.Well sure enough, he went to get tested, and needed glasses, so now after 3 hrs, he is landing with 15kt cross winds and flairing at the right height every time, and it actually feels from my side that he KNOWS where the ground is now, it took him a full hr to reset his vision, but now he is going great ready for solo now after only 3 hrs if this wind would give us a break. So if your really having problems with the flair/landing stage, go and get your eyes tested and make sure you ask for depth perception.

At this time, I am reminded of two names in Aviation history:Bruce Petersonhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_PetersonWiley Post.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiley_PostBruce Peterson is the actual test pilot in the "lifting body" M2-F2 aircraft that is featured in the opening sequence of the TV series "The Six Million Dollar Man". That was actual footage. He survived. He lost an eye but still went on to fly military jets and helicopters.Wiley Post lost an eye on an oil rig but still flew a plane, The "Winnie Mae" around the world. Both did great things with one eye. Neither has actual binocular vision, but it"s amazing what how your brain can adapt and what a person can achieve!
