A few from me2.4. What happens to the rotor disk as you increase speed in a gyro? The disk flattens out with respect to the incoming airflow. 2.5. Why is it unwise to fly fast in bumpy conditions? The real killer is the bunt over, and to reduce the probabilty of this in bumpy conditions it is best to fly slower and thus have rotor disk at a higher angle of attack. 2.13. You land at a friends property and as you taxi towards the hanger, a dog runs towards your gyro. What would you do?This actually happened to me, and I can tell you dogs can move fast when they want to. You dont want the dog to come into contact with the prop or the rotor so get the stick forward and kill the engine. Then work out how to deal with the dog that is now trying to attack you. At this point I considered restarting the engine as my flight suit only offers limited protection from the munchings of those K9s.4.22. At what stage of the flight is the engine most likely to fail? Why? OK this one is open to debate, so my thoughts are that most components are most likley to fail while under the greatest stress. In this case the engine is most stressed during the take-off phase.Or for two stroke machines they can nip up when you back off????Ross B

From a SCG.How do you judge the wind speed and direction in the air?A;When you only fly at 100', you already know.. Your first flight of the day was at 8am and 18 deg C. At 11am your about to fly again with a temperature of 37 deg C. What differences would you expect in aircraft performance and flying conditions for this flight?A;It'll be hotter. You pre-flight your machine, but what about yourself? What should you check about yourself before you get into the seat? A;Be sure you are awake, have a p1ss and check your tobacco supply in case of a walk home. Before going for a local flight, what information should you tell the duty pilot?A;Who's that??What happens to the rotor disk as you increase speed in a gyro?A;Thats a trick question. Increase speed in a gyro???, an increase in nuthn is nuthn. Why is it unwise to fly fast in bumpy conditions?A;Can't answer this one either coz I'v never flown fast and I'v never felt any bumps. You land at a friends property and as you taxi towards the hanger, a dog runs towards your gyro. What would you do?A; AK's are harder n dogs. What do you check prior to starting your engine? Do you use a checklist?A;Oil and fuel. What are the checks you do prior to taxying? Do you use a checklist?A;Taxying????You normally fly area sea level, but you are trying a new location at 4900 ft AMSL. What differences do you expect in aircraft performance, and would you alter any of your airspeeds for take-off or landingA;They reckon inland Oz used to be an inland sea, now we're supposed to be 2000' foot up, so I suppose nuthn changes. What is the most difficult obstacle to see during a forced landing?A;A big enough gap between the trees to fit your rotors.Just after take off you find yourself at 100 ft AGL struggling to climb, you pass the airfield boundary fence and your engine stops. What do you do?A; Curse the gutless heap o **** and land it.When your engine fails, how much altitude do you require to complete a 180 degree turn?A;13'.At what stage of the flight is the engine most likely to fail? Why? A;At the most critical time,ie; cattle are almost yarded, I'm at the fartherest distance I'm guna be from home today, when your at the point of no return over godzilla country.Again, only the oppinions of a low time SCG.Ignorance is bliss............but only till you realise you were. You can always get the answer you want, if you ask enough experts.
