You line up behind the piano keys on a smooth sealed runway, seemingly coated with teflon. You have a 10 knot crosswind gusting to 15 knots. The local aero club CFI and members are all watching. What will you do to be very tidy on takeoff? One wheel first? Fast or slow? What happens the moment you rotate? Would anything be different to taking off from a grass strip?Dave

Put the disc into the wind as much as is necessary to cancel any drift. Use as much opposite rudder as necessary to keep the nose pointing straight down the centerline. You should need less correction as your speed increases. A little extra speed will help to make the takeoff smoother. Don't even think about whether or not one wheel lifts off first. If you cancel the drift and keep it pointed straight, the gyro will take care of itself.I can't comment on the grass strip since I've never used one, but the basics have to be the same.
