Adrian,Thank you for the reply... why is it "normal" procedure? Is it normal procedure to keep us in the dark?As you can see from the Australian Electoral Commission site the election results are declared publically, or as it is, for those who voted in the election to see the result of the election, which lends the election some credibility and transparency. Why does that not prevail with ASRA?This is the ASRA site, I"ve logged in as a member of ASRA having paid my fees and insurances and I have a right to know, so I"ll make a formal request here of the returning officer to make known to the members how many votes each candidate received, what the formal / informal votes were and why. There is no need for me to go to the returning officer privately in any way, shape or form. You do realise that since ASRA is an incorporated entity I can invoke the corporations act and demand via ASIC a response for this question, whether or not I have asked privately or publically is of no matter. So, would the returning officer, Mr Peter Harris, please stand up and advise the count.Thank you,Nick.

Nick,ASRA is not trying to be difficult at all, historicaly the Gyro News has been the official "oracle" for ASRA, the ASRA Board has in the past had feedback from the membership that that is the prefered communication tool as less than 50% of the membership are on the WEB. I am not even sure if Peter Harris visits this site!I am happy to ring Peter Harris on your behalf and get him to call you if you wish.Regards,Adrian

Guys,Iam not sure what has happened in my last post but the ****** should have been "feedback". I would also like to remind members that the minutes of the last AGM will as usual be published in the next edition of Gyro News, ASRA is compared to most other aviation bodies in our country, considered to be one of the most transperant, that of course doesnt mean we cant get better!.

Adrian,Nick makes a very valid point here. The full election results should be published in both the official magazine and on the web site, not necessarily on this forum. This is after all the age of electronic communication. I have never heard of a club that requires a private communication with the returning officer to find out the results. In another club I am a member of the returning officer declares the results which are then promptly posted on their web site and published in the first available edition of their club magazine.

He has served the association (ASRA) and the gyro movement in various capacities for probably more than half your lifetime. He has helped me out on a number of occasions, and I know him to be a very decent bloke. If he (in his voluntary capacity of returning officer) has "declared" the election, then it is good enough for me. And I suspect that it is good enough for more than 390 of the 400 odd members. Even the most impatient of us will be happy to wait for the "details" in the next GN. The guts of the election results are on the ASRA home page, details in GN.Those that can"t wait could probably get the info by making a very polite phone call to Mr Harris. He is a volunteer (like all of our elected officials) and whatever you perceive as your rights under any legislation, you can forget. It is not the obligation of any of our officials to run around in circles satisfying the whims of disgruntled individuals. Their time is given freely to further the priveleges for flying that we all enjoy, and to satisfy our reporting obligations to CASA and Consumer Affairs that enable us to fly.

I agree 100 poocent Fred. For those who cant wait for the results, make an effort of your own, and find them yourself.Me, im content to wait for the mag.If you dont like the present situation, volenteer your own valuable time at the next election, im sure youll win .[ and if you do, dont expect a life outside the organisation, coz even tho you wont be getn payed, sum will expect you to jump 24/7.]

Congratulations Fred on one of the most intelligent and measured responses i have read on any of the forums in recent weeks. Whilst it does appear that there are a few amongst us that are not totally happy with the current ASRA board, the remainder of us are more than happy with the efforts of the current board and all boards previous efforts that allows us to do what we love FLY And isnt that what its all about. Any board past or present that enables me to do the things I love will certainly get my full support whether they are perfect or not. There are two types of people in this worldThose that talk about what they are going to doAnd those that do what they talk aboutCheersDarren

To Fred, Yoshi, et al...ah, note your points, but, something you missed here.....He had to count the votes to determine who fell into what position... [ are you with me? ]by pen or by key board, he had to tally the result and advise the who was on the board and who got what ... [ still with me ?

Hi NickIm not denying that there may be a few underlying issues with the ASRA board that need rectifying, but what is even more apparent is your is the abundance of spare time you seem to have on your hands with nothing better to do than stir the pot. I cant but help to wonder that if you dedicated some of your energies in doing something constructive for ASRA not destructive we might all be better off. There is an old school yard saying that goes PUT UP OR SHUT UP
