I don't recall where the subject came up a few years ago, but I saw some technical discussion on the merits and otherwise of anodising. This is very hard and brittle thin coating formed from the aluminium itself, it has been criticised for use on highly stressed components as a breach in the anodising was thought to be a possible stress raiser. From what I can recall the final consensus was that it's probably OK as it prevents corrosion stress raisers forming. I think I would avoid it for highly stressed components e.g. hub-bar, but OK elsewhere.John EvansThink logically and do things well, think laterally and do things better.

Murray, Yes it is powder coat. You might note the teflon inserts in the ends of the double tube pic. Originally these were high impact strength plastic, which melted during the powder coat process. Larry then used the teflon because it could handle the heat. We may use alum instead and suffer a minor weight gain..John, the subject was discussed during one of my early research and fact finding phone calls. I wouldn't expect you to remember every conversation with so many members. That's why I thought to 'jog' your memory. Your comments as to the anodising are as you stated way back then. The hub bar will not be anodised. At this stage we are looking at replacing powdercoated parts for anodised and chromed parts for a ceramic coating, two pack finish or raw polished finish. The beauty of the anodising is that it protects inside and out.Cheers,Mitch.How's this for a highly stressed anodised part. This is the lower front nose cluster plate. The place where all the triangulated front end and pedal tubes attach. The top plate is unblemished and will be reused.Image Insert: 38.66
