Guys,I thought I would jump in here and remind Rotax users that Rotax issues service & maint updates regularly. In most cases the manual you got with your engine is out of date a short time after you rec it!Regarding oils for Rotaxs, both 2 & 4 bangers this has been the subject of many Rotax circulars I suggest you subscribe to the update service and read through them you can register at www.rotax-owner.comRegarding the use of AVGAS in the 912 Rotax it is not recommended due to gearbox contamination from lead and it also severly reduces the recommended TBO times. In my experience (two 912,two 532, one 447) you will get much better life and smoother operations using unleaded.I dont recommend using Shell Optimax or BP Ultimate because they increase the "aromatics" to boost the octane and burn temp and this swells standard fuel lines in under three months. On one of my aircraft the "approved rubber hose" went from 5/16" to 3/16" and led to severe leaning of the fuel in less then three months. If you are determined to use these fuels make sure that the hoses and other rubber components in the fuel system are made from "Vitron" or equiv. Regards,Adrian

bones and birdy,About 5 years ago when i was mustering in cunnanurra ,Barb Brown was there with her new 912 rosco machine and was having trouble getting premium unleaded on the stations. We researched Rotax in regard to this and they cum back with a heap of ad,s and service bulletins that recommended a non synthetic oil be used if you have to run avgas to stop cylinder glazing. they also said they would prefer to see avgas used in the uls engine over std unleaded with a low ron if premium wasnt available.
