If you aim for nothing, you'll hit it every time

      • Well...........tad disappointed, performance the same, which is fine.......but noise reduction zero, actually noisier .....different note as well.........buggerOk......at the minute, have achieved a "safer" exhaust ( away from the ground grasses...fire ) less weight, looks better.just have to quiet it down..........heaps

        • Russ, you are looking to quieten the wrong thing. Most noise comes from that prop, the slower & more efficiently you can run the prop, the quieter your gyro will be.My old 2.2 with a straight out bit of pipe sounds reasonably quiet under 4,000 revs, change up to 4,400 revs and it sounds like a truck

            • I"ll be quietening monro ina minute...........no brian, i think you may be wrong, me gyro "noise" was ********** with the orig exhaust system, by now changing the system to this current one, my noise has increased a lot, i myself noticed a big increase through my head set doing a lap or 2. Yes i noticed a couple of hundred more revs at full tap, so it must be breathing better. Will be seeking an answer from mate that builds drag cars etc.........let"s see. My wish......is small / light / QUIET..........how ??????????2 independent systems ( one for each head ) is my thinkings, don"t want a web of pipes .......looks like shyte.

              • wow a couple of hundred more revs is a bit of extra hp at the top end. are you sure it"s not exhaust/prop noise. you should take your prop off and run it to see the difference without. it"s a good test. i can hear the tappets on my engine without the prop on.

                • That original system was rubbish Russ, definitely never designed to go on a suby. All you can do is experiment, seems Ken Watson got his gyro fairly quiet.

                  • Ok.........latest info.........if you want QUIET, then you have to run 4 into 1........( web of pipes....bugger ) then you have to install a muffler, then you have to minimise back pressure to get performance.....that means basically a straight through muffler..............that means NOISELooks like what ever i do............NOISE is going to happen ...........bugger.

                    • Russ, look in frunt of you, sumones taken you for a ride. [ more pipes n crap costs, he didnt arf see you comen. ]Iv never had anythn but a streight through on the ferel, and noones ever said is was loud. All they can hear from the ground is a wild growl at full noise, and thats comn from an angry prop. Its all in the resonance.Me ol Merc truck blew a muffler a coupla years ago, [ rattle your eardrums loud].It was a twin, two headers into two 4" mufflers with a balance tube.Wasnt go"n to fork out zillions for a station truck pipe, so i made up a 2 into one and streight out into the blue. This systm is quieter n the orrigional Merc setup. No backpressure n no noise.

                      • i had a bit of an obsession with exhaust noise a few years back. i was happy with what i had but wondered if there was anything quieter. i changed and fitted about everything i could think of other than hand making one hand packed with s/s dish washing mesh, like i saw some one do. yes i even tried a motor bike muffler. the guy at the shop went to all the trouble of working out the difference between my 1800cc engine doing 5k rpm and a smaller motor bike engine doing 10k or so rpm. gave it for me to try, no diference in power at all but sounded like a bloody motor bike.

                            • I put two $25 hot dogs on my EJ25 Russ. I think it sounds sexy, good enough for NT standards, and suits the budget of a poor old pensioner receiving a third of a black fellows pay. (Didn"t make a nest egg after 24 yrs. in business because I was too honest)
