  • RAF vs Sparrowhawk

I am presently looking to purchase a kit 2 seater and my options are either a RAF or Sparrowhawk. Any useful comments would be much appreciated. All the bestSteve McNulty

Depending on wot your intending to use it for, but the SH would be better than a RAF as a cruiser. But if you apply the appropreate mods to an RAF, it'd run rings round the heavy SH.Ignorance is bliss............but only till you realise you were. You can always get the answer you want, if you ask enough experts.

Hi BirdyCan you provide a bit more detail on your comments. Why is it a better cruiser? The weight of a RAF dry is around 800lb. Is the higher thrust line on the Sparrowhawk an issue for ground handling and potential roll over? etc etcSteve

Forget both of them & send your dollars to Owen Dull - his machines will outperform either one.Come to Cessnock & I will take you up. Ring 6573 1206

Steve,I'v never seen a SH but just go'n on stability, itd be easer to sit n watch the world go by in the SH.But an RAF, with a bit o money spent in the right places, [engion replacment, better blades, stability improvements and cab mods] I'd like to compare in practice. All that crap dribbled tho, Echo has the best solution.[If I didn't have my RAF i'd have one o them Owen Dull machines.]Ignorance is bliss............but only till you realise you were. You can always get the answer you want, if you ask enough experts.

Fish,I think the RAF[standared with EJ22] is bout 300kg empty.I'v heard the SH's are heavier, either way, they are bloody big heavy tanks.Ignorance is bliss............but only till you realise you were. You can always get the answer you want, if you ask enough experts.

Scotts is about 145kg. If you are just starting buy a single seater. Cheaper to tip over. Ken

I had the chance to passenge in a SH at Mentone last year, very roomy and impressive. Noticed a tail wagging problem that I think has been dealt with since. The 2 flying SH's there had a distinct sound (noisy IMHO) (Supertrapp mufflers or similar)searching for power I guess.Spend your money in OZ. More product for less money.PS I'm not a pilot , just an interested observer..cheers,...Art Spink...

Have to agree with Birdy Ken. I think you must have meant 345kg instead of 145kg.Tim McClure
