Brian, I am not worried, as I have a very light machine, and have actually debated this very point !. I know there are many 2 seat machines fitted with large fuel tanks, pods, and 4 stroke engines. I also know that they have been succesfully operated for many years in all sorts of adverse conditions, and different G loadings while using AN hardware.I am just being open minded, as these people have studied, and deal with aircraft every day, and understand what is acceptable and whats not.The idea of opening this disscussion was to see what the general gyro flying community thought, and it may be something to consider in the larger heavier machines.Regards Sam.[]

You're right Tim! I boobood! I admit to a little unease, but couldn't think what else it could mean[:I] Heaven knows I had enough dealings with them when I had a GA aircraft, not a lot of it very satisfactory. As with any other occupation there is a wide range of competance, some are very good, but severely hampered by the rigid rules under which they operate. The people who are qualified to make the sort of judgement required in this discussion are known as Regulation 35 Engineers.John EvansThink logically and do things well, think laterally and do things better.

I don't know if it's true, but I have been told that if you're going to try that , do it with the brakes on, it is claimed that a turning wheel is more likely to dig in, whereas a skidding one stays on the surface. Does Chuck know?[B)]John EvansThink logically and do things well, think laterally and do things better.

This is a bit of a twist where the gyro boys call the bug smasher boys nuts. Unless you have actualy done it, comments about sanity are purely conjecture. This particular stunt is carried out in "ground effect" at a reasonable speed, you will notice the tail high attitude as considerable forward stick is required to maintain this contact with the water, my personal preference is to do it with the brakes on for the reasons mentioned by John, however I do know people who do it without the brakes .It was a common cropduster sport in years gone by, to pull up allong side people water skiing and wave to them, followed by much laughter and spruking.CheersGyro Gearloose
