I thought I had a thread already go'n on this topic but I can't find it[?].[must av been on the yank forum]After a few hours fly'n time accumulated over the last coupla years I'v tryed only two types of props, the common Warp Drive and the less common Ivo Magnum, the latter being much wider chord and rated for upto 700hp.Both where coupled to a 912 Rotax. If your interested read on, if you don't give a ****, then don't.[]The three configurations I can compare are[ and these arn't formal tests, only observations based on performance.] WD / Ivo mag 2bl / Ivo mag 3bl.DIA 68" / 62" / 62"MAX T/ORPM 4900 / 5300 / 5100CruiseRPM[50k] 4400 / 4200 / 4000MAX clmbrate 750fpm / 850fpm / 1000+fpmFuelburn 14-15lph / 13-14lph / 11/12lphThe wider, shorter Ivo blades are more efficiant and convert more power into thrust, are much quieter and because of the smaller diameter, I can drop the plant a few inches to lower the TL without make'n room for a big prop by reconfigur'n the hole machine.[}]Ignorance is bliss............but only till you realise you were. You can always get the answer you want, if you ask enough experts.

Birdy,Yes its on the Yank forum. However the post does raise a number of interesting questions. The significant difference in prop size and as a direct consequence the area of possible thrust generation, the efficiency of 2, 3 and 4 blades in being able to generate thrust from clean air, the chord, twist and angle of attack of the blades.... Should I go on?Surely someone has conducted some research into this area before.Ted

BirdyI have seen a pic of the IVO on your gyro.I also have one on mine, and the best thing about the new generation IVO's is the Quick Adjust hub !!!!!!!!!!!!!!I was able to adjust the pitch of all 3 blades by simply loosening 1 nut, turning the centre pitch adjusting screw, relock nut and PRESTO DONE.During testing we would land machine, stop, adjust pitch, start, and take off, all while the rotor's were still spining.Took no more than a minute tops.Regards Sam.

Where did you see the pic Sam??[RAF or ferel]The quick adjust is easy but the performance is better.Once I'v found the ideal pitch seting, I don't change it.Nik, I used to run the 68" WD at bout 14/15*, the 2bl Ivo at bout 13* and the three bl Ivo is set at bout 9*/10* now.Ignorance is bliss............but only till you realise you were. You can always get the answer you want, if you ask enough experts.

Hey Chuck, they don't fly too well if the birdy isn't coordinated either.Luckily, this one seems quite ok.......Flying - The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss. (Douglas Adams-The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy)

No, I'm only say'n a 62" WIDE CHORD will push more n a 68" narrower one more efficiantly.I [well not me, the MF] looked up Ivo on this computer thing and got the US of A address n ordered one direct.Ignorance is bliss............but only till you realise you were. You can always get the answer you want, if you ask enough experts.
