Been out tonight and trimmed up the article in the mould.Tomorrow I will manufacture the internal alum spar. Just about ready to put all three sections of moulds together for initial gluing, then tape cloth and bog the leading edge strips on both HS and VS.Exothermic reaction..I cleaned out what was left over from my first gelcoat. Scraped it into a rag and bundled it up. An hour later I picked it up to throw it in the bin and fair dinkum, I reckon you could of cooked an egg in it.First pic is the satin finish after four coats of PVA. Prior to it"s application the mould surface was shiny/reflective.Had a bit of drama, with the PVA spray-up this time round. Thing was "cobwebbing" all round the workshop. Got on the blower and was advised to add some metho. Did this, no good. Added same quantity of water and hey presto...all"s good. So , thing here is the PVA goes off abit over time. Alcohol evaporates off. Dont leave the caps off, ect, ect.Might have a new tail and some pics, soon.Mitch.

Paul,I believe Sam might be referring to the Greg Mitchell Production Line. :-*Hey Sam,Mate just when you think you know it bites you in the backside. More Pics here.Have the 3 piece mould with tail in it baking in the Sun in an effort to accelerate the bog and glass lagging of the T spar. Got myself in a right ole mess putting the thing together yesterday, top part of the HS fell out of its section as I was puting the top on so to speak. Went to bed thinking I could end up with the lid welded to the rest of it because I dressed all the edges again with PVA after the clean up then failed to wait for the PVA to dry. So I"m thinking the wet PVA inside the mould created a "humid" atmosphere and has likely slowed the going off rate and possibly it"s strength. We will see, might have to seperate the top HS skin and

Nick,Yes, Larry was doing this in the US but no longer does so and it seemed to create more problems, in that the foam once injected went off at varying rates and sometimes never went off, remaining in the article as a foamy gue along side, solid expanded foam. This may have then manifested itself in the form of an uneven wave/ripples across the top of the HSEmail Allan W, he has had the top skin off a US tail, he can give you more detail Nick.We thought not to at this stage, though the mould I have has foam on it around the edges of two holes located on the underside of the HS.I had the whole unit (mould and article within) warmed up a little after removing as much of the still moist PVA.Happy to report that the bog has set up just fine. Reckon I was to light on with the catalyst/hardener, given the extra product/flox being added to the resin, I made the mistake of trying to give myself more time to work with the putty.Nick, I still have to tape the leading edges of the HS and VS. 22mm glass cloth tape glued into the rebates in the leading edges of the laminates. Three layers of tape, bog and shape. I"ll see how stiff she is, weigh her and if need be at that time place the tail back into the mould and add foam.I have been tempted all evening to go out pull the tail from the mould and mount it on the rudder horn, start doing the glue and bog job but I found rushing glass work is the first mistake...tomorrow will be soon enough and it gives it all night with more bake up time, so hopefully wont melt down on the mainland in the midday sun. Dark colour sucks up the heat.I dont work all that hard Nick, life is to short. The colour is great.
