Norm I think I've found the reason for your frustration with Btitish International Trading, it seems that Matthew Maude, who was previously there has opened up Performance Metals. He seems helpful - even offered to pick me up from the station if I went down by train.Ph 02 4577 7769 emailerformancemetals@bigpond.comJohn EvansThink logically and do things well, think laterally and do things better.

It is my understanding that there are only three dies in Australia to produce the standard 2 x 2 1/2 inch 6061 T6 section we use for mast and keel sections. Unless you are building a design that uses round tube, you need to go to one of the owners of these dies to get the correct section. I know Ross Symes is one such supplier, Northern Rivers Gyro Club is another, but who are the others John? Norm, I am not sure how much knowledge or experience you have in relation to building gyros Norm, but your separate thread on alternate bolts supplies to AN bolts makes me think you might need to get another person to look over your project at this stage. Sam made a brilliant suggestion earlier up in this thread suggesting you have a local TA have a good look over it now before proceeding further. I have seen projects started that never get completed or should never be passed by a TA or crashed because of improper design and building technique. I am not trying to put you off your design, just get another informed opinion on it.PeteBairnsdale,Vic.

I have a TA and a nice man he is but I like to ask my questions and dig out my answers before I bring him into it. He has a life to live and doesn't need me pestering him with questions. Besides, his answers are "Yes", "No", and when I ask "Why", It's always "because we've always done it that way".Yes, he has a favourite supplier but how do I know if it's the best or cheapest supplier without checking around. People tend to follow the same path, over and over again. That doesn't make it the best path, especially when the passage of time changes things.Everyone seems worried about me going down the wrong path, wasting time and money. Well, don't! I'm not worried about it. Making mistakes is the way I learn things. Besides, I'm checking things out here first, asking questions....It's the journey, not the destination...I feel more comfortable talking here. This is what a forum is all about. There is always someone online, waiting with baited breath, to respond, to express an opinion, to pass on knowledge, to slap my fingers, whatever. It suits me better and it seems to suit other as well..Finally, I'm able to type and communicate better than I can talk. I have a speech impediment - I avoid situations where I have to talk. My TA's supplier is the "vocal" type...Norm

Norm, you can getsome good building advise here on the forum. You probably will not even have to draft out the bad advise because the other members will do that for you."Because we have always done it that way" is not good enough. There is a reason for everything, and sometimes that reason is quite simple.Keep posting and asking questions - a speech impediment will not hold you back here. Adding photos to your posts and asking more specific questions will get you more direct answers.I get the impression that you are intending to use a VW engine. Is this the case and if so why?Tim McClureBroken Hill
