Military terms for situation report and position report. The "General" is of course the misses. I use 7922.5 MH. Call sighn VLO48 generally on the ground with a flex wire to the nearest tree. However I have a stainless antenna under the craft and sticking out the back with an antenna tuner which should work in flight. As this craft is still undergoing trials I haven"t had much time to experiment with the HF. I"m expecting a lot of static in flight but we"ll see. (In the process of manufacturing and installing an Alloy Tall tail behind the Kruser cabin. I"m always interested in HF as if but hope not we ever hit hard times the good old HF will always work. My new craft also receives AM-FM and short wave. i"ve always been a bit of a radio freek

If in doubt, fit another earth. That"s my rule. Many a motor vehicle has come to me with weird problems and I used to first ask "Has the engine or G/Box been recently removed" If the answer is "Yes" then I"d dive straight under and check the motor/body/chassis earths. Mechanics often forget to bolt it back to the G/box. I even earth my coolant pipes on my new Gyro but that"s to try and eliminate interference on my HF transceiver. And maybe it helps slow down electrolysis eating my alloy pipes. (The HF is to file sit-reps and pos-reps to the "General" back home) Can"t afford a Sat. Phone. Also having the radiator earthed is good too.... so any stray current gets back to the battery thru a wire, not by eating its way back thru the radiator

If you put a positive to the radiator it would do as you say... earthing the radiator (especially aluminium) is giving minute stray electrons a fast way back to the battery and therefore reducing electrolysis. If you look under most cars bonnets, there will be a wire or braid between radiator and body of car, as well as from motor/gearbox to - of battery. If someone forgets the earth strap Max was talking about (that often gets overlooked), as well as intermittent problems, it can eat aluminium components over quite a short period of time

Know what you mean guys. After fixing cars for many yrs. I spat the dummy on one job and purchased a cheep car $7.50 and squashed it down to 4 inches with a D9 just to feel good. Yes Disco, It used to be "Client frequency" at Tennant creek transport and works. I just inherited a few units during the auctions. Never heard the frequency used. Everyone has sat. phones. I pay a yearly fee $40 to have a call sighn for bush emergencies. 8022 is a handy one as it"s monitored by 4x4 and caravan people. Supposed to pay a fee but I"m sure if you"re in the poo they"ll pass on a message. (Then offer a donation) I"ve got a Codan 100w 8525s SSB and AM and it will receive right through 3 to 30 m/hertz. Handy when you"re tucked in the swag with a blonde, a fire and your gyro nearby in the desert and listening to HF.
