We were working on the CDI on Bryces suby and we got it running in the afternoon but it"s not fixed yet. They are fairly complicated as it has a little computer in it so to speak, Well put it another way it does some number crunching. We think it could be the knock sensor. So in a week or two we will put a new battery in and a knock sensor, and ill bring a big deep cycle battery up too. We checked every thing cam and crank sensor on meter and oscilloscope the signals to computer and the knock sensor didn"t read right on ohm reading. But of course while we were working on it we may have disturbed the fault too. But we are close i can feel it in my bones. Bryce was a happy feller to see his engine running after we disconnected the knock sensor but short lived as would not restart. we believe its feeding the CDI/ECU garbage and the computer shuts down. WE also swapped the igniter signal wires over and the fault followed out to the coils that"s from computer to igniter and igniter to coils so we know the igniter and coils are Ok it"s either sensor to computer or computer to igniter. We also tried another computer and the fault is the same. Any way a little more white man magic we are close. It"s just gotta be the knock sensor. Pleeese. ;D ;D ;D it"s making us work for it...Mike.

I"m starting to feel good about my fleet of subaru"s after hearing sad stories of 912 black box failures

Have to agree Max, especially when a half decent soob engine costs 1/4 of one black box

Yeah like anything electronic good while running and a bugger to fix. We noticed the cam sensor sends signal like 1/1,2/1,2,3/1,2,3,4 it was hard to catch it on the oscilloscope whilst cranking the engine, if the engine was running i could adjust the trace but the signal was there but not as clear as the crank sensor. Anyway there is some number crunching going on and i guess they are reliable until a fault occurs. we are hoping the knock sensor is the culprit it has half meg Ohm reading and it should be zero ohm by the book but half meg if 5/8 of nothing any way.The engine ran once after we disconnected it but would not start, if this sounds familiar I"m keen for any hints fellers. I told Bryce he will be the ECU Guru soon with all the fault finding on his engine. Hey Muz at least we have standard old webbers on the Rotax not that fancy fuel injector stuff. . Gunna get a can of stat ya ******* that will get it running or maybe we will convert it to Diesel we already got the injectors.Mike.

The best fix for a sooby fuel problem is an SU or 2

Come on guys, stop bagging RAFs.... there isn"t that much wrong with them... apart from the bloke that designed and built them, the lack of horizontal stabilizer, the small flying tail, the big pod, the huge wheels, the narrow track, the weight, the motor, the redrive, the thrust line, lack of suspension, the fact that they are ugly, the rotors, head, controls.... apart from that, they are perfectly safe,,, nothing wrong with them

Yes Brian its a green one.The other sad thing is the RAF looked the part,a nice looking gyro with shiny anodized alloy bits, the only side by side fully enclosed gyro on the market, and cheap. RAF Canada could have evolved a bit and still be selling them.I don"t know if RAF South Africa sell many especially when you can buy a Euro gyro that has a decent horizontal stab and is easier to fly.

Only went for a ride in one with its owner and had a little bit of a play, never as PIC. It was an original unmodified one too... pretty scary..... I was glad to get back in mine. ;DI am sure that newer or modified ones with a decent tail and a bit less agricultural one I went in would be much nicer to fly in.... am actually looking forward to going for a blast in a nice one, one day....So Paul, maybe take a couple of tea spoons of cement and a glass of water and chill out..... the

Rather than you fellers drinking ya cups of tea and blowing smoke up each others a##e, give Bryce a break hes probably the only FLYING mascot up there at the moment, so what about the Raff it just shows the level of pilot ability, I never heard him complain once about his machine, except it won"t start. Oh by the way i"m all out if Give a F@#k"s, but i have a rats A@#$ if that"s any good to you.
