What if it poped between two cylinders. No coolant problems. (Just a bush mug having a guess?) Haven"t loosened the 6 head bolts yet (yes only 6 bolts) as I am going to town tomorrow. (It"s a pleasant 15 min. free for old local farts ferry ride)-130 km by road - to buy a 14mm 12 sided socket. My 9/16 socket is not a neat fit and I could imagine the strife you could get into if you stuffed a 12 star head bolt :-[

Max you could be onto something... it would explain the cylinder running cooler and/ but mightn"t be bad enough to show a low compression,You did say earlier though that number 4 valves were leaking but didn"t say which it was, I assume it was inlet as you would have had to have the head off to properly check the ex. ...Since you have the head off It would pay to lap all the valves in . best way I know how to check em once done is hold the head on it"s side and use a bit of fresh fuel to fill the port and see if it bleeds out the valve seat , flip the head over

I studied the gregory"s hand book while on the bog for a few days as to how to remove a head on an EJ25. All seemed complicated according to the book. (must of been written by intellectuals) I thought, F@#k the book and attacked it! It"s so simple, with a single cam anyway. It could be done by a retarded orangotang provided you mark well the cam belts and pulleys. I could write clear instructions on half an A4 paper! Anyway the head is off and there are No faults. Not even any carbon build-up. No cracks, Valves hold petrol, and gasket looks perfect. It"s only cost me $85 for a gasket and I"ve learnt a lot about the engine.(Get to know your engine, it"s your best friend up in the sky) I like to put a positive on anything. When I"m on my death-bed biting chunks out of the head-board and spitting blood I"m going to say "It"s the best day of my life" cause who knows, there may be an after life and we may be able to fly all day ;D ;D

"I studied the gregory"s hand book while on the bog for a few days as to how to remove a head on an EJ25."Max, next time try You tube. I also was worried with a "modern" motor, and watching someone else do it made it easier than reading. And yes, I marked the cams.Graham

Hi Max back up a few posts and you comented on a timer that you had made to fool the limp mode you said thatThe timer produces 1.84 volts at 65.5 htz. Did you measure that in the circuit with the crow?If that is the case you may well be sending the ECU nothing it recognises as from memory digital inputs require at least 2 Volts and a lot of the time more like 2.2 Volts to see a high on their input

OK, I"m confused again. I"ve completely accepted defeat with this malony EFI system on my EJ25 in the kruzer cabin, and have been hunting for a simple ECU that uses most of the existing subaru sensors, doesn"t require a lap top to tune, preferably comes with a dash unit that I can play with until the engine sounds right. After all, all I won"t is to plod along between 4 and 5000 rpm all day on as little fuel as possible. I"ve shot down the idea of a carb conversion. Am willing to spend $1500 or more. The white dove is no good sitting on the ground :-
