Max you have replaced the ECU with a known good one and you still had the same problem. It would make sense (to me) to get the injectors checked as the next step. Your CRO trace definitely showed a problem with one of them.Any person that needs fuel injectors over hauling, can contact Craig Ainsworth at 07 54955555. The cost will be at trade rate $25.00 ea plus postage. The only thing is that the injector should be serviceable. You will need to tell him that your from the Gyro club. This will absolutely remove these from the suspect list.Regards........Chook.

EJ25 running rough

Actually got it to start and run for 20 seconds today. sounds like all cylinders but a bit rough. Obviously I have a million adjustments to make on the control panel. Slow learning curve. Come to think of it it took me a year to tune my hot cam EA81, but it"s been going like a dream for the last 8 yrs or so.

It"s been 1 yr. and 2 months and still the ej25 is grounded. Here"s a run-down. Install Maloney system - Runs well for approx. 4 hrs. test flying. During next take - off there was a "pop" out exhaust and would from then on not run properly on no.4 cyl. Unable to fault electronics - Check compressions - ok - swap injectors - no difference - renew plugs and leads-no difference. Remove both heads, inspect pistons, leak test valves - ok assemble with up-graded head gaskets. Double check valve timing. (Valves "rock" when piston rocks on top of Ex. stroke.) - Hope thats how you do it? Remove moloney system - install Micro-tech aftermarket EFI fuel and ignition system. Now only runs on 1 and 4 cyl. but will run on 2 and 3 when 1 and 4 injectors are disconnected but only start with petrol down the hole. swap injectors around - No difference. W.T.F. Determined not to give up and buy a Rotax. Besides, the craft was built around an ej25 A rotax would not look right. (Something to be said for carburettors) :-

Thanks, Guys. Just talking about it helps keep one sane. I"m inclined to think it"s something to do with injector timing. Kev"s good on this stuff but towing a trailer 4000 km doesn"t tickle my fancy. The dash control unit is like a laptop. I can change most anything. Still trying an adjustment a day. If one day it fires properly there"ll be a wild party! ;D Can"t fly a micro tech expert up here. Told them it"s an air boat.

I"m glad I used to become shy when in the trade and some-one came in with a tricky EFI fault. I"d be living in the long grass and hunting for used cig. buts by now ;D At least the faithful EA81 is still going well. A bloke from the middle east came out this morn. (on the ferry boat) for a TIF. By the time we pushed her through the trees in the light rain we were sopping wet. She fired up on 3 cylinders but soon cleared. Around the lighthouse and back and he said it was the best thing he"d done in his life (a common remark) We were bone dry by the time we returned. He said the little open air gyro like mine would be very popular in Oman. Might be a bit boring though flying around sand dunes all day.

Probably one of the most spectacular places you could imagine for gyro flying. Even the dunes!! Pity few people have seen the place. CheersMiles

On the EJ 25/22/20, they all use and rely on the crank and cam sensors to supply info to the ECU as to the position of both the crank and cam for ignition and fuel injection. The only way the fuel injection can be out of phase is if some put it out or a major ECU melt down or wired up incorrectly

Well, I might check the place out Miles, as long as they allow you to kiss in public? A lot of my female TIF students are so thrilled after a flight they kiss me. I was even kissed by a big tattooed male bikie once! (and I"m a bit homophobic) Your 360deg. theory is interesting Birdy. I assumed Darrel that if the Ign. timing was ok then the injector timing should be also. But I"m only a mug learning. :-
