Hi John,Mate, you best describe the 'harp' and how the 80 odd strands of Nichrome are wound on to it. Read your post on Rotary. I'd appreciate the info. Thanks. Will be seeking advice from Allan regarding solo opps, can't seem to get an instructor on the right day/s for nil wind condition flight. In the old days the "Boys" did their training on the Mainland, then came back and soloed their craft down here. My instructor may not even be instructing for much longer, time, travel and family constraints all becomming obstructive issues, not withstanding most of his time is spent flying TIF's (when at the field) due to lack of incomming student members. It will be a sad day for Tassie if he pulls the pin.[]regards,Mitch.Paul,That's gotta hurt. [:0]Sounds like too much iron in your diet. Try Anusol to sooth and relieve the pain.[][8D]regards,Mitch.www.thebutterfly.info

John,I have contacted Fisher & Paykel re the motor, it is 12 volt DC, however when I was speaking to service agents they informed me that that they get enquiries all the time from people that wish to adapt the motor for other things, he then went on to explain to me that it is not posible as it is not just a plain motor, the motor, drive shaft and agitator have been designed as all one unit. all the bestPete Barsden

I prefer what is it? Rectonal I think!!![:0]Greg, a couple of possible scenarios,1) see if you can get a few days spare and bring your Butterfly over and I will get you going, not a problem.[8D]2)I could whip over and supervise your activities, if you like. All I would need is a vehicle and radio that you, in your gyro, can hear from me in the vehicle. Remember that training is my specialty, diplomacy definately is not!!!!![]The "lack of gyro training" problem is certainly holding the gyro movement back all around the world, which is a shame. Our wonderfull flying machine has a bad public perception, and on top of that, training is almost unavailible compared to GA and u/lights.If I can be of help let me know.Aussie Paul. Nick, I have taken my dual trainers to Tassie 3 times I think. The folding mast is handy. The last time they wanted $400 with the gyro on a trailer, BUT only $200 for a caravan. One of my Raf owners has a caravan that he gutted and made the back of it hinge down as a hanger, so I borrowed that.[]Inspection at Tassie is interesting when they open the door!!!!![:0] Usual comment is "my husband would love that".[^]Always more than one way to skin a cat!!!![]Aussie Paul. Paul,I agree diplomacy is not your strongest point in character. I would have thought given your concern for the lack of instructors and being long time colleagues, you might have given the man a call, offer him your ear and assistance. This apprehensive 'chicken' is set to fly the coop. We will be at Cranbourne Wednesday and we are expecting a BLIZZARD, hey there might be a little window of opportunity, you never know with Tassie weather. Oh and I'll be tellin my Boy about your poachin activities Paul, he has'nt given up his patch yet. What we need is more students, this would allow him to operate from an airfield closer to home.I'll see you at Cooma Paul.Mitch.www.thebutterfly.info

Geez, you try to help someone!!!!!!!!!!!!!![!] Go ahead and tell your boy. That's ok. I have taken the punt of not having a full time job, to support the gyro training industry, and myself of course, so how about some support for the guy who has put his neck on the line!!!!!![V]Fortunately the availibility of my 7 day a week training service gets me a variety of students from around the world. I don't need to poach. []I was actually trying to help you out. Geez. []Mitch,[] I think you need as much help in the diplomacy area as I do !!!!!!![]Aussie Paul.[]www.firebirdgyros.com

quote: Originally posted by Pete BarsdenPaul,This goes past old and into ancient technology, the one's that I saw around 30-40 years ago were round carbon disc's stacked one apon the other like stacking 20 cent coins, and then put under pressure, like pushing down onto the 20 coins to vary the resistance, I have a feeling that the early electric sewing machines used this principle, all the best paul.Pete BarsdenWould it would work though[?] I believe that the battery testing apparatus that the auto elec guys use today is still this principle. They wind the pressure to the carbon pile to load the battery. The next time I am at my auto elec guys shop I will ask him if I can have a look inside the "apparatus".[]Aussie Paul.[]www.firebirdgyros.com

Hmmm!! the Banyan tree strikes again.Hope you can get into it soon Mitch, very frustrating.Good work Pete, although the words 'not possible' may only mean 'extremely difficult'.Mitch I will try to find my stuff on the 'harp' and get Llewella to help me put it on here when she returns, it's really very simple. However I do think the recoil one they have come up with may be the best bet - light , simple, and will probably get you all the RRPM you need.John EvansThink logically and do things well, think laterally and do things better.

Paul, Thanks for your offer to help me out. I realise it was a genuine offer but would much prefer it came through as an email, would have been more reasonable/ethical, whatever. I should go back and put in the appropriate little smiles and faces with all the LOL's, might have been more diplomatic on my part, never been a big part of my make up either Paul. What's all this 'neck on the line' rubbish Paul. Someday you wont be the only full time instructor, what will the catch cry be then? We are looking at putting Butterfly and Raf on display with gyro video loop footage at Agfest to try and access more of the public and get some students onboard. Thanks Paul, keep plugging away Buddy. John,I'll put the pull start pre-rotator on after tomorrows outing and get back to you with the rrpm's. This pre-rotator sits up front of the head as does the electric starter, which Allan has removed to eliminate stick shake (minor), so it will be interesting to see if a shake is introduced. Geoff assures me there is none at the present time.Cheers,Mitch.www.thebutterfly.info
